Peace Tourism
International Credo ot the Peaceful Traveler

Grateful for the opportunity
to travel and to experience the world and because peace begins with the individual,
I affirm my personal responsibility and
commitment to:

+ Journey with an open
mind and gentle heart;
+ Accept with grace and gratitude the diversity I encounter.
+ Revere and protect the natural environment which sustains all life.
+ Appreciate all cultures
I discover.
+ Respect and thank my hosts for their welcome.
+ Offer my hand in friendship to everyone I meet.
+ Support travel services that share these views and act upon them and,
+ By my spirit, words and actions, encourage others to travel the world in peace.

International Institute of Peace Through Tourism

These are a few of the travel organizations whose recent projects show their commitment to preserving and protecting the Earth, the oceans and the quality of life of the Earth’s inhabitants.

Seakeepers Society
Carnival Cruise Line recently joined Seakeepers Society, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ocean preservation. As part of that commitment, Carnival’s new 102,000 ton ship, the Triumph, will be fitted with a tracking device that will collect information and track a broad range of data, which will then be transmitted to the University of Miami and various environmental groups to aid in assessing ocean pollution and researching global climate changes and weather patterns.

Travelers Conservation Foundation

Vivian V. Russell Travel supports the idea that if tourism is the world's largest industry, it should be a leading player in world conservation. The whole industry should be involved, from tour operators to cruise lines, hoteliers, tourist attractions and travel agents.

An organization called The Travelers Conservation Foundation (TCF) headed by Linblad Expeditions founder Sven-Olof Lindblad, holds the promise of leading the way in conservation projects around the world. Recently the organization contributed $240,000 for the restoration of Ellis Island's original ferry building. Prior to that a $250,000 contribution was made to the Mesa Verde National Park Restoration Project.

The Foundation's mission is to help preserve cultural, historical and environmental sites around the world. As the world becomes more degraded, hopefully tourist dollars can be funneled into preservation and restoration efforts. Stay tuned to this site for developments in this critical area.
